  • UK Open Government License

The UK Government Licensing Framework (UKGLF) provides a policy and legal overview of the arrangements for licensing the use and re-use of public sector information, both in central government and the wider public sector. It sets out best practice, standardises the licensing principles for government information, and recommends the Open Government Licence (OGL) as the default licence for public sector information. The OGL is an implied licence. By using information made available under the licence you indicate that you have accepted its terms and conditions. There is no need to register or formally apply for a licence.

In addition, The Open Government Licence is intended to be interoperable with the Creative Commons and Open Data Commons Attribution licences that are recognised by the information community and used internationally.

You must use the following attribution statement to acknowledge the source of the information:

Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Full details of the Open Government License can be found at: https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence

  • Ordnance Survey Open Government Licence Ordnance Survey Open Data

Certain data on this site is regarded as geographic data. This means that the data can be downloaded or is suitable for direct use in a Geographical Information System (GIS).

Data is still released under the same terms as the Open Government Licence (OGL), but as this geographic data is derived from Ordnance Survey data, a different attribution statement is required:

You must use the following attribution statement to acknowledge the source of the information:

Contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right [year].

The same acknowledgement should be included in any sub-licences of the data that you grant, including any further re-use.
